I had the privilege of attending Star Wars Celebration in 2015 when it was in Anaheim California. It was one of the most memorable conventions I have ever been to in recent years. There was so much to do and see it was quite overwhelming. Not the overwhelming where you want to leave, but the kind where you need more!
And more is what I got. I spent all day looking at the amazing set props they had set up, buying merchandise and generally being n aww of the cosplayers of which there was no shortage of. The do such an amazing job replicating their favorite characters. We meet up with all our other Star Wars friends and we walk the floor together getting giddy over what we see.
Now one thing I do have to advise, is don’t play with the legos! You will want to help build that giant Darth Vader, but don’t. Its ripe with sickness and I’m positive it’s what gave me con crud for the 2 weeks afterwards. Hand sanitizer is a must.
I can’t wait to watch the Celebration live stream. It is done very well, since in 2015 the first day I had to work. It can be found at StarWars.com.
Check my Instagram for my pictures from the 2015 Star Wars Celebration I attended. If you are there have fun! Take a lot of pictures, you will want to look back on them. I promise.
Are you ready? I know, that is a question never to ask anyone who is going after a Comic Con badge, especially on the day. Comic Con doesnt have the most user friendly purchasing system, but someway, somehow, it works. Though not everyone will say that it does. By now everyone has all of their links to where they will be able to get into a landing page in the morning. It is here where the stress truly truly sets in for some.
Watching the spinning wheel, seeing the tweets from people who just scored the most awesome badge ever possible and then more waiting. For anyone who hasn’t attended comic previously they really have no idea what goes into not only obtaining a badge, but securing a hotel. That though is a whole different post.
Make sure you have breakfast, have some coffee. Get in the waiting room, set your computer settings so it won’t turn off on you. Be plugged in, charged up and know all your passwords. Have your credit card information.
If you are lucky you have some friends who are also in the rankings to score a badge, and they too shall have an opportunity to purchase a couple badges. Stay connected. Stay calm.
There is just a little over 9 hours left until the chaos begins. Best of luck to all of you.
The Disney Expo, known as the D23 Expo is fast approaching with dates of July 14-16 2017. With all the conventions that come through southern California, D23 has to be one of the most exciting cons. It comes to Anaheim, right near Disneyland and brings with it the most amazing unseen items, displays and interactions that any Disney fan will love.
I went to D23 in 2015, and I have to say, it was one of the best con experiences I have ever had. I enjoyed everything I saw. Normally a person who doesn’t like the crowds, at this particular con, I was so filled with awe to even notice how many people were around me. It’s just an overall great experience.
I look forward to attending this years D23 expo.
I have been going to Wondercon since it came to Anaheim a few years back. This year I personally thought it was a bigger convention than in past years. I’m the type of person who goes to conventions for comic books. I go with a list of obscure comics by number of what books I’m looking to read.
There were plenty of vendors to suit even the pickiest of collectors. The badge pick up went rather smooth for me. I went on Thursday, the day before the convention began.
The variety of food trucks in between the Hilton and Marriott hotels was great. They had some of the best food trucks. They each had their own niche with a lot of choice.
The only gripe I had, and I think most attendees will agree with me is on parking. Parking was an absolute disaster. If you could find a spot consider yourself lucky. If you had a Disneyland annual pass, even luckier. Next year Wondercon has to come up with a better parking scenario. If they do that it would make it so much more enjoyable.
Wondercon 2017 has come and gone. Here are some photos we took as we walked the convention floor. We will be putting up a Cosplay slideshow soon, so check back. Overall, it was a great convention with something for everyone!
Wondercon 2017 begins tomorrow, Friday March 31 and continues to Sunday April 2nd. This is a historic Wondercon for some due to the fact that it does not fall on Easter weekend. It is being held at the Anaheim Convention center, which is directly across from Disneyland.
Wondercon is affiliated with the San Diego Comic Con. Yes, it’s the same folks the put that wonderful show on that also put this show on, its just a smaller, but just as good. Wondercon is host to nearly 59,000 people.
A bit of history about Wondercon. The convention hasn’t always been in Anaheim. Until 2012 it was in San Francisco, having Originated in Oakland CA. A fun fact that I didn’t know until I read the information handed out today when I picked up my badge.
Wondercon has something for everyone. There are are a multitude of vendors, nearly 1,000. Comics from DC, Marvel, Image, Boom. They have new and used comics and I usually find some stellar deals at some of the booths.
There is a lot of programming some of which includes Warner Bros, BBC, NBC and 20th Century Fox. Just to name a few. There is hundreds of hours of panels over the course of the 3 days. It’s rather quite amazing how they put this show together so quickly. I was there today, and honestly there really wasn’t much put together yet. I’m sure the vendors are working late into the night to get ready for everyone tomorrow.
I will be updating through out the day, and in the evening after the day has come to a close. Check my Facebook and Twitter for updates.
Iron Fist is a marvel character that I knew nothing about until I started watching the Netflix original series this week. After binge watching the show, which I highly recommend checking out, I did decide check out some of the comics.
Iron Fist is not a new character, however there is a new Iron Fist #1 that was just released. I read through it quickly and I really liked it. In the comic, he’s seems to be losing his Iron Fist powers which he draws from the chi force of K’un-Lun, which was destroyed. Needless to say, Iron Fist is having an identity problem, since when he’s not Iron Fist, he’s Danny Rand.
Danny Ran is having a rough time finding himself, and begins frequenting a bar where whisky is his friend. Until opportunity arises and Danny just may have a chance to find answers, and maybe even restore his power.
This was just the first issue of the comic, so this is where is 2017 storyline will begin. Danny is a master of Kung Fu and even though his Iron Fist power is fading, he can still hold his own.
I am looking forward to the series. He is an interesting character who doesn’t just fight but also has a very real human emotion side to him. Making him easy to relate to on a few levels.
They leave us with Danny sailing off to find answers. I can’t wait to take the journey with him.
I’ve found myself over the years increasingly becoming a fan of the X-Men. We all understand their mutants, and each has their own different specialty. But Logan, he was deeper than the rest. He had a past that we (as viewers, I’m sure the comic book readers saw) never really saw. Sure we knew he could be violent. That was always kept to a PG status.
Logan is a complex deep character. Always has been. Even before this stand alone film. There was so much to be seen and felt and learned in this film about Logan. A lot of emotions were felt, not just for him but also for Charles.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers. But if you are a fan of the X-Men, or maybe just a fan on Wolverine, please take time to see the film. It may surpass your expectations or be dead on.
I found myself loving this film, fight seems, under tones, and character development. I highly recommend it to any fan out there who even remotely likes X-Men or Logan.
