Today was the second day of Wondercon at the Anaheim convention center. This was my first day going as I was at the Roseanne premiere yesterday (I mean how could I miss that). It was a con as usual, and being Saturday, it was busy. Many a cosplayer lined the front of the building as well as the show floor.
I found this year to be a bit confusing even though I had a “map” in the guide book. Many of the vendors were the same, some were new. It seemed however as if they had moved vendors around a bit, and that’s okay. Just try to remember where you saw that awesome item you wanted because you just might spend an hour trying to find it again.
I always like to spend time in the small press area. It’s where I discover new comics, new stories and new characters to love. Or hate. I do read some main stream comics, but I have always been a big supporter of small press.
Besides there being a lot of people there today, traffic and especially parking was a disaster. Honestly the extra money I paid for a hotel for one night was totally worth getting around the parking debacle. This happens every year. This year though it seemed they had more roads closed off, routes re-routed. The pedestrians weren’t being funneled by the police, so if you were driving and needed to turn, you had to wait for all 50+ people to walk across. Remember we are also dealing with the Disney Crowd.
If you are coming tomorrow, remember, it closes earlier than it has been. It closes at 5. Come early. If you see something, buy it. Don’t pass it by if you an afford it. Check out every booth. I’ve found countless things I never would have found if I didn’t stop, have a chat and pick up a book, comic or toy.
Most importantly, have fun!

The Disney Expo, known as the D23 Expo is fast approaching with dates of July 14-16 2017. With all the conventions that come through southern California, D23 has to be one of the most exciting cons. It comes to Anaheim, right near Disneyland and brings with it the most amazing unseen items, displays and interactions that any Disney fan will love.
I went to D23 in 2015, and I have to say, it was one of the best con experiences I have ever had. I enjoyed everything I saw. Normally a person who doesn’t like the crowds, at this particular con, I was so filled with awe to even notice how many people were around me. It’s just an overall great experience.
Disney Infinity is shaping up to be a real platform game. With the addition of Star Wars, Tron and now, Disney’s upcoming movie, it seems like there is no end to the juggernaut.
What’s great about the addition of Inside out is that it’s not just a re-hashing of the film. It’s more like a sequel. And that is great game play for me. I find myself bored if I’m playing through a game that I’ve already watched in a movie form, and therefore know what is going to happen.
The Inside Out playlet is a bit different than other sets in the fact that it has a platform feel to it. And that is ok by me. I grew up on platforms and some times it’s nice to be able to kick back and just play.
All the characters will have special abilities. Anger can run across lava, Disgust can high jump, Fear runs quickly and Joy can glide across long gaps while Sadness can walk across clouds.
I’m not sure what folks were expecting to get from the Tomorrowland film. Were they expecting to see Walt Disney’s Tomorrowland from the theme park come to life? I went into the theater expecting to see exactly what I saw. A place that was in a different dimension, a land in “tomorrow'” if you will, where the people there had the genius and creativity to dream up and make into a reality a better world.
A better tomorrow.
There had been much hype about this film in the years leading up to it, from when we got first glimpse of the mysterious box found that was supposedly Walt’s at D23.Interesting items that made sense for the film. Absolutely plausible too.
For me, it was the thought, the idea, that a place such as this could exist. Where people actually want to do good, and create. You could read into this movie with all the subliminal messages about our current situation in the world today, but thats not the point that Tomorrowland is , trying to convey.
Sometimes you can try to change people’s minds yet it doesn’t always work. When faced with imminent destruction only a few will step up and try to make a change. Sadly most will accept it.
I plan to see the film again. It was visually stunning. And while some say the story wasn’t there, perhaps they needs one imagination. Of their own .
