Halloween is Almost Here, Check out these Haunts

Halloween has always been one of my favorite times of year. The creativity that comes out in people is astonishing. Now Halloween isn’t for everyone but for everyone who it is for, here are a few local haunts that you can visit if you’ve already been to Halloween Horror Nights, Dark Harbor, Haunted Hay Ride and of course, my favorite, Night of the Jacks.

If you are wondering where is “local” for us, it would be in California a bit north of Los Angeles. I’ll list a few, just by name and location, if you need more information feel free to DM me on Twitter.

The Bone Yard, it is in Simi Valley, CA and it is on Halloween night only.

The Haunt at Hellizonde, also in Simi Valley CA

A Haunting on Hill Canyon, Thousand Oaks CA

Murder House Productions, Thousand Oaks CA. I did go to this one last night and I do have pictures on our Instagram and Twitter. This is a small but scary “production”. They are small, but they sure do know how to do Halloween. You can see a walk through on our Facebook page, group and Twitter if you can’t make it. It’s worth it and it doesn’t cost a things for this great experience.

Morning Rose Manner, Simi Valley CA October 1-31

That was just a small list, there is quite a bit more. Being from Connecticut, Halloween was a very big part of my childhood. Now being in California, I have found some very very amazing walk throughs, photo ops, and attractions.

If you’d like more detail feel free to ask.

Halloween in July, Midsummer Scream

This year was our 2nd time attending the Midsummer Scream convention in Long Beach California.  We love Halloween and October is a long way away.  Its conventions like these we wait for to hold us over until Halloween.

“Come closer I may have some candy”

This year the convention was much bigger than in years past.  Many booths and many walkthroughs.  It truly felt like Halloween.  So much so we didn’t want to leave.

“They Live”

The booths were decorated, the picture above is from a great film called “They Live”.  It really makes you think, and the picture is on point.  There were scary walkthroughs on the other side we could have went through but this year we focused on the booths and what the convention had to offer.

This will hopefully become a tradition each year, and will be something we attend in addition to SDCC, Wondercon and LA Comic Con.  Everyone who likes Halloween in July should check it out!

Glen Tavern Inn, Santa Paula California

Last night we decided to stay at the Glen Tavern Inn in Santa Paula Ca.  I wasn’t aware that it was a haunted inn when I booked it, but the simple reality is, it’s haunted.

The way we heard about this inn was, last week we had taken the Fillmore Western Train for New Years Eve.  We had been seated with a couple that was staying at The Glen Tavern Inn.  It also

happened to be the last stop on our train where we celebrated the new year before heading back to the station where we were picked up.   (That experience is for a different entry).

There are many stories about this Inn, such as a man having hung himself not too long ago in 2008, as well as murders that had taken place up in famed room 307.  It should be noted this was a brothel at one time.  During the prohibition this was a pretty booming town, and The Glen Tavern Inn was a hub of debauchery.

Now it’s a nice looking quaint Inn, with a silent history.  We did however see some what most people call orbs in our room.  I saw the video afterwards since by this time I had fallen asleep.  They are pretty clear.  We were staying in the John Wayne room #208.
