Comic Con 2019 Begins in Two Days and We’re Here

Every year we like to come down to San Diego CA to see the city transform for the three of the most craziest days San Diego sees each year. The transformation literally takes place overnight. I’m seeing building wraps go up on buildings, pop ups popping up. I haven’t been all over but I’ll tell you what I have seen.

I went down to the Horton Plaza where a pop up shop of FYE was there again. I stumbled on them last year when I went out to the Amazon Treasure Truck for am exclusive Funko pop. This is further way from the convention nut one of the best things to do outside of it.

Maryjanes at the Hard Rock Hotel is turning into “The Good Place”. Let’s just say a lot of pancakes will be made and enjoyed.

Amazon Prime was setting up. I wasn’t able to go in but from what I read and saw it’s sure to be an awesome experience. Hard Rock is turning into SuperStore for those familiar with that show. One can not forget Super Store 7. Which will be full of classics monsters. Wolfman,Dracula, etc.

The next few days will surely bring much joy to many people and the transformation will be complete!

Tonight we are staying at the Hard Rock, it’s a comfy hotel with great amenities.

Wondercon 2019 Begins in Anaheim CA

Official Logo of Wondercon

Every year geeks from around the world gather at the Anaheim convention center and celebrate, anything and everything they have a passion for deep in their soul. Many show it by Cosplaying their favorite character. Others may spend hours in panels with their favorite subjects or tv show personalities. Then there’s the ones who come and look for those hard to find comics, who go to the small press in hopes of finding an unknown comic to discover. Artwork is also a big item folks look for at WonderCon.

2019 Dates

Many people go and meet their friends and have a great time, enjoying what they love. In the middle of all that you may see a celebrity walk by or jump into your picture. Wondercon is essentially a smaller version of Comic-Con that takes place in San Diego CA every July. It is also put on by the same organization, so you may notice some similarities. Yet clearly you will see the differences. First and foremost you will notice just the sheer size. While Wondercon is a big convention, it comes not where near the size Comic Con. Literally Comic Con takes over the GasLamp area of downtown San Diego.

WonderCon in past years.

If your planning on attending Wondercon there are a lot of things to consider. What do you need to wear, what program are you going to follow and on what day. Who are you going to meet up with and when. It can be easy to get in a line and then realize, you’re hungry. One suggestion is bring food, snack type. Carry a water. I believe this Wondercon is going to be a bit on the warm side. Don’t be afraid to ask the staff where to go. Looking for a long time can cause you to miss that panel you were looking forward to or that photo meetup with your friends.

Think about parking. They do have a lot of information on their site on where to park, when to show up and where to go once you get there. Personally, I like to stay at one of the hotels so I don’t have to worry it. In the long run, it saves time and money.

Here is a guide they have on their website that might help some of you. They do have these available at the convention itself.

SDCC 2018 National Geographic Nerd Nite Party

When most people think of San Diego Comic-Con, they think of the elaborate studio displays, the endless tables of comics and the innovative photo opportunities for some upcoming or established shows.  However, those who have been going to Comic-Con for a while, know, it’s what happens after the convention that can bring the most fun and at times, knowledge.  The after parties.   There are so many that you have to choose which one you are most interested in attending.

This year we chose to attend the National Geographic Nerd Nite Party that was on Friday at the Solamar Terrace&Pool at the Hotel Solamar.

Walking in to the Hotel Solamar is quite a view, it is a gorgeous hotel.  Once you get up to the pool area, you immediately walk into a well organized party, where National Geographic is celebrating second season of Mars 2 which will premiere in November, 2018.  There is a lot going on, from astronauts on stilts handing out some fitting Mars bars, great posters for the show and tables of some very well catered food.  It is rather impressive.

The vibe of the party is wonderful and a welcome escape from the chaotic day we’ve all had at the convention.  It is a party where you can relax, and learn at the same time.  They had a lot of fun things going on especially this performer in a ring.  Everyone had eyes on him.

The party also had presenters one being Leland Melvin, Former Astronaut.

Bobak Ferdowsi, M.S. “The Mowhawk Guy” Systems Engineer at JPL, NASA, Fault Protection Lead on the NISAR Mission.

As well as Emily Manor- Chapman systems engineer, JPL, NASA, instrument operating engineer for the InSight Mission to study the interior of Mars.  The party also featured Alejandro T. Rojas, culture reporter, Den of Geek.

The National Geographic party was one of the best that we attended this year.  It’s unique to San Diego Comic Con and can add a bit of extra fun to your experience.
