This years Long Beach Comic Expo was filled with many vendors, great cosplays, fun for everyone, and even some learning opportunities found down in the NASA area.

We spent our day speaking with vendors and comic creators as we walked the show floor. I have to say, each year the Long Beach Comic Expo gets better and better. They have secured more vendors and interesting comics. I love to go through the comics and find one that opens my mind to different worlds. If we are lucky the creator is there and I get a chance to speak with them. You get the story behind the story and I absolutely love to have that chance.

One staple at Long Beach Comic Expo is Wild Bills soda truck. It may seem small but it is an absolute must. Sometimes they have special cups commorating the event. Once you buy a cup, you get free refills all day. When you are spending a day at an Expo, this is one of the most cost effective things that they have in the building. It is one of my favorite attractions.

One of the best things about having a comic expo is being able to see your friends. We all spend a lot of time reading the comics, emulating our heroes and talking about our fandom. When you are at the Long Beach Comic Expo, you are all one, no matter what fandom is your favorite. Seeing a friend who you might not see on a regular basis, is a very rewarding feeling.

There is one important thing I find when I go to Long Beach Expo. It’s not overwhelming. The crowd is controlled. Getting into the Expo is not a hassle. Once you get in you are able to move around and really take a look at each booth. Over crowding can be an issue that makes the experience not quite fun. This is not the case at the Long Beach Comic Expo. Its an expo you can fully embrace and enjoy. We look forward to the next time there is a Long Beach Comic Expo or Long Beach Comic Con. I highly recommend if you are in the area, or can’t get to San Diego Comic Con, this is the convention I prefer. It’s just an over all fun expo to attend.

SDCC 2018 National Geographic Nerd Nite Party

When most people think of San Diego Comic-Con, they think of the elaborate studio displays, the endless tables of comics and the innovative photo opportunities for some upcoming or established shows.  However, those who have been going to Comic-Con for a while, know, it’s what happens after the convention that can bring the most fun and at times, knowledge.  The after parties.   There are so many that you have to choose which one you are most interested in attending.

This year we chose to attend the National Geographic Nerd Nite Party that was on Friday at the Solamar Terrace&Pool at the Hotel Solamar.

Walking in to the Hotel Solamar is quite a view, it is a gorgeous hotel.  Once you get up to the pool area, you immediately walk into a well organized party, where National Geographic is celebrating second season of Mars 2 which will premiere in November, 2018.  There is a lot going on, from astronauts on stilts handing out some fitting Mars bars, great posters for the show and tables of some very well catered food.  It is rather impressive.

The vibe of the party is wonderful and a welcome escape from the chaotic day we’ve all had at the convention.  It is a party where you can relax, and learn at the same time.  They had a lot of fun things going on especially this performer in a ring.  Everyone had eyes on him.

The party also had presenters one being Leland Melvin, Former Astronaut.

Bobak Ferdowsi, M.S. “The Mowhawk Guy” Systems Engineer at JPL, NASA, Fault Protection Lead on the NISAR Mission.

As well as Emily Manor- Chapman systems engineer, JPL, NASA, instrument operating engineer for the InSight Mission to study the interior of Mars.  The party also featured Alejandro T. Rojas, culture reporter, Den of Geek.

The National Geographic party was one of the best that we attended this year.  It’s unique to San Diego Comic Con and can add a bit of extra fun to your experience.
